When it comes to mental health, We Need to Talk. We believe everyone should be able to talk about their mental health without fear of stigma, and that support services should be available and accessible to anyone who is struggling.
This year, we will be continuing our work to increase awareness around mental health, and how to look after yours, while also helping people feel more comfortable discussing their own mental health and reaching out to others.
Alongside this, we want to ensure that students have access to support, and will be working alongside the university to review the services available to Middlesex University students, particularly looking at provision on campus and waiting times for counselling. Within this, we will be looking at the preventative measures that are in place to support good mental health.
Throughout the year MDXSU will be raising the topic of mental health, sharing useful information and encouraging conversations.
As part of this, we will be hosting regular events, such as regular Chill Out Hubs on campus, where you can take some time out for a cup of tea, a play on the Wii or a chat. We also host a series of events focused on men's mental health during Movember, talks throughout the year, and some de-stress activities during the exam season as part of Make it Happen. View all upcoming events at www.mdxsu.com/events
We are also currently working with Middlesex University to review the provision of wellbeing support services available to students.
If this is an issue you're passionate about and you want to work with us on achieving our aims, we'd love to hear from you! Please give us an email at mdxsu@mdx.ac.uk, or visit us downstairs in MDX House. You can also get involved by engaging in our activities on campus and online, such as growing a moustache for Movember, or by simply reaching out to a friend.
For further information about services you can use on campus, online, over the phone and locally, please visit our Wellbeing Services page.
As part of this campaign last years' Vice President Arts & Creative Industries, Lucy Holland, attended a panel discussion on enhancing mental health and wellbeing. A recording of the panel can be found below.
