The Materials Room is a vital resource for all students, particularly those studying ACI. Restricting access to this space has had a damaging effect on our learning. Under the current system, students are required to make appointments that are only available when certain staff members are present, making the room difficult and often impossible to access.
In the past, students were able to use the Materials Room freely during their projects, especially when they needed inspiration or guidance. This access was crucial at times when many of us felt lost or unsure of how to progress. The loss of this space has created a significant barrier to creative development and independent learning.
We understand the challenges the university is facing and acknowledge that it may not be possible to staff the Materials Room at all times. However, there are practical solutions, such as scheduled weekly open-access slots, that would allow students to use the room without the added pressure of booking appointments.
Our education should not be limited by restricted access to essential resources. The Materials Room is a core part of our learning experience, and continued inaccessibility directly affects the quality of our education. This petition seeks a fair solution that ensures students can access the support and inspiration they need.
Our aim is to reach 300 signatures to show the level of concern and push for meaningful change.
