What is the placement scheme?
MDXSU provides Middlesex students paid opportunities to put their studies and skills into practice by helping in local businesses, faith and community groups. The scheme is aimed to make Barnet a better place to live for everyone - with Middlesex students, the university, local organisations and the students' union all benefiting from the initiative.
Designed to fit around your studies and commitments, as well as boosting your employability and developing your experience of the working world that will make you stand out to future employers! Placements are approximately 6 hours per week, for 6 weeks (but may vary). We're also an accredited Living Wage Employer and pay in-line with the London standard of £10.85 per hour.

Community Placements Scheme FAQs
Am I eligible to apply for a Community Placement role?
If you are currently studying at Middlesex University, have a VISA and have the Right to Work in the UK or can complete one, you are eligible to apply for available Community Placement roles.
How long is the placement, will I be paid and how much?
All MDXSU Community Placements are paid positions and abide to the London Living Wage of £10.85 per hour
The London Living Wage is based on the cost of living and is voluntarily paid by employers who believe a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. Click here to find out more.

What is UniTemps? How do I register with MDX UniTemps?
UniTemps at Middlesex University is part of the university’s MDXworks that acts like a recruitment agency on-campus (CG07, College Building).
All Community Placement roles are contained on the Middlesex UniTemps site, along with other great work opportunities for part-time work.

Each available role will have a Job Description listed through UniTemps.
Please ensure you have read these before starting your application, as they include key information and what skills are required for the job.
Do I need to submit a Covering Letter?
For each job, you will be required to write a cover letter alongside uploading your CV. You will be asked following questions;
What interests you about this organisation?
Talk about your motivations to apply and give a sense of your personal connection to this role.
Demonstrate that you understand the role you’re applying for and pick out parts within the job details that sparked your interest to apply. You might want to think about;

Talk about your skills and part experiences – even if you don’t have experience in that related field. This includes any part-time, internships or volunteer work. Give one example from your previous work that has allowed you to develop the skills that is required for the available Community Placement job.
What would you hope to achieve through the placement?
Tell us about how the role will support your personal development, develop your skills, complement your studies and/or benefit you in the future. Including, your aspirations and why it’s important for you to be involved in community work.
