Celebrating Pride Month

Pride Month 2024 is here! A time dedicated to honouring the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating diversity and promoting equality. To all our students, we wish you a joyful and enriching Pride Month filled with learning, solidarity, and celebration.

History of Pride Month

Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, which took place in New York City in 1969. The riots began as a response to the police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village, and are considered a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. These events galvanised the community, leading to the first Pride marches and the establishment of various advocacy organisations. Over the years, Pride has evolved into a global movement, promoting acceptance and equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
