Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, which took place in New York City in 1969. The riots began as a response to the police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village, and are considered a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. These events galvanised the community, leading to the first Pride marches and the establishment of various advocacy organisations. Over the years, Pride has evolved into a global movement, promoting acceptance and equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
